What Skyarium is for

Skyarium is for enjoying the sky. It isn't for navigation, air traffic, safety or any decision that matters. Flight data comes from volunteer receivers and public services and can be late, wrong or missing.

Common questions

Why don't I see any planes, or only a few?

Skyarium shows planes picked up by a volunteer network of ADS-B receivers. Where there are few receivers nearby, some planes are missed, and the app says "Few receivers here". Small planes without ADS-B don't show at all. If it says "No planes in range", the sky really is quiet right now.

The planes on the Horizon don't line up with the real sky.

The Horizon follows your iPhone's compass, which magnets nearby (cases, car mounts, speakers) can throw off. Move away from them and turn the phone in a slow figure eight. You can also drag the sky or turn the compass to look around by hand.

How do I use the wall display?

Tap the left button at the bottom of the screen. Skyarium turns sideways; lay your iPhone on its side on a charger. To leave, tap the screen, then Done.

How do I get a better voice for the wall's radio calls?

The wall's calls use the voices on your iPhone. The free Premium voices sound far more natural than the standard ones, but iOS doesn't install them until you ask:

  1. Open the Settings app and go to Accessibility › Read & Speak.
  2. Tap English, then Voice.
  3. Choose a voice that offers a download, such as Ava, Zoe or Evan, and download its Premium or Enhanced version (Premium sounds best). It's a large download, so use Wi-Fi.
  4. In Skyarium, open Settings › Wall display, choose the voice and tap Play a sample.

On iOS 18 the same voices are under Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices.

Why don't alerts arrive when the app is closed?

Alerts work while Skyarium is open. They give a heads-up a minute or two before a plane passes close.

A flight shows the wrong route.

Routes come from community databases and are sometimes missing or out of date, especially for new or changed flights. Let us know the flight and we'll pass it on.

What does Skyarium do with my data?

Nothing leaves your iPhone except a point on the map, sent to public flight and weather services. See the privacy policy.
